Prague's public transportation



  • Tickets in Prague can be used on any type of public transportation and allow transfers between lines and different types of transport for the duration of the period for which the pass is valid. These can be purchased for 30 or 90 minutes, 24 hours or 72 hours.

  • You can buy your tickets here or in the app PID Lítačka. Children under six ride free.

  • Ticket terminals are installed in all trams and in the metro vestibules. They are intended for the purchase of single-journey tickets and only cashless payments are accepted. 

  • Find more information on zones and timetables here.

  • When getting the ticket, it is mandatory to stamp it in the yellow validator machine (usually in a metro station or inside a bus or tram). This stamp will mark the date and time and the ticket will be validated for the time being, therefore it shall not be stamped again. Further information can be found here.

Recommended Apps

PID Lítačka - PID Lítačka is the official application for Prague's public transportation. It allows users to plan routes and buy tickets to use in public transports.     

Moovit - Moovit is a free application that helps users plan routes using public transportation and provides mostly accurate schedules for arrival times.

Sights

Prague Castle (Pražský hrad)

The Prague Castle is an historic fortress and the largest ancient castle complex in the world, according to the Guiness Book of World Records. It overlooks the city and is the seat of the Head of State.


Charles Bridge (Karlův most)

Charles Bridge is a medieval stone bridge from the 14h Century beautifully decorated with 30 Baroque statues, which connects the Old Town and Lesser Town across the Vltava River.


Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí)

Wenceslas Square is a central boulevard. It features the Jan Palach Memorial, a tribute to the Czech student who self-immolated in 1969 as a protest against the Soviet invasion.


Vyšehrad

Vyšehrad is an ancient fortified castle with panoramic views of Prague, holding historical significance dating back to the 10th century.


Stalin on Letná

Stalin on Letná is the former site of the largest Stalin monument in the world, now replaced by the Metronome sculpture. It is currently a cultural space which offers a panoramic view of the city.

Museum of Communism

The Museum of Communism in Prague offers an in-depth look at life under the Communist regime in Czechoslovakia, from 1948 to 1989. It showcases artifacts, documents, and multimedia exhibits that explore the political oppression, propaganda, and resistance movements of the era.


Museum of Czech Literature (Památník národního písemnictví)

Dedicated to Czech literary heritage, this museum showcases a rich collection of manuscripts, documents, and artifacts related to the country's most prominent writers and poets.


Kunsthalle Prague

A contemporary art space located in the heart of Prague, Kunsthalle hosts a rotating selection of exhibitions featuring modern and contemporary artists, focusing on both Czech and international art scenes.


Kampa Museum

Situated on Kampa Island, this modern art museum houses the extensive collection of Jan and Meda Mládek, featuring works by major Central European artists, including František Kupka and Otto Gutfreund.


UMPRUM Museum (Museum of Decorative Arts)

Cultural programme recommendations

Karlovy Vary International Film Festival

One of the oldest and most prestigious film festivals in Central and Eastern Europe. It has been held annually in the town of Karlovy Vary, since 1946. Known for its diverse selection of international and independent films, the festival attracts filmmakers, industry professionals, and film enthusiasts from around the world. It offers a mix of competition films, retrospectives, and tributes to notable directors and actors. The festival has a rich history of showcasing innovative cinema, making it a major cultural event in the European film calendar. The festival is traditionally held in early July. 

The 2025 edition is expected to run from July 4 to July 12.


Colours of Ostrava

A multi-genre international music festival held annually in the city of Ostrava, Czech Republic. It takes place at the unique industrial site of Dolní Vítkovice, a former coal mine and ironworks, providing an atmospheric setting for live performances. Founded in 2002, the festival is known for its eclectic mix of genres, including rock, pop, electronic, world music, jazz, and more. It features international headliners alongside local talent, along with other attractions like theater performances, workshops, and discussions. Colours of Ostrava is one of the largest and most beloved music festivals in Central Europe. 

The festival will take place from July 16 to July 19, 2025.
