MSA Forward 2025 - Call for Papers

The Memory Studies Association (MSA) is pleased to announce the MSA Forward 2025 workshop, a dedicated forum for PhD students and advanced M.A. Students engaged in memory studies. MSA Forward serves as a vibrant platform where emerging scholars and junior researchers can present their work, engage with peers and receive feedback from established academics across the association, contribute to the evolving discourse on memory and its multifaceted dimensions, and build lasting interdisciplinary connections in a safe space for engaging and constructive discussions.

MSA Forward 2025 will take place on July 14 in conjunction with the main MSA conference in Prague, Czech Republic.

We strongly encourage submissions related to the theme of MSA 2025, "Beyond Crises: Resilience and (In)stability", but we also welcome proposals on all topics within the broad field of memory studies.

Submissions may address, but are not limited to, the following areas:

  • Memory, Politics, and Social Transformation
Examine how memory influences politics and social change, including anniversaries, memory politics, and activism.

  • Memory, Identity, and Representation
Explore the intersection of memory with identity and representation, focusing on gender, migration, and marginalized narratives.

  • Memory, Trauma, Violence and Resilience
Address the memories of violence, justice processes, trauma recovery, and their impact on societies.

  • Memory in Health, Environment, and Economy
Investigate how health, environmental changes, and economic factors shape collective memories and community identities.

  • Memory in the Digital Age and Education
Discuss the impact of digital technologies on memory and the methods of teaching and transmitting memory.

  • Theories, Histories, and Methods in Memory Studies
Critically examine the foundational theories, histories, and methodologies that shape the field of memory studies.

We welcome interdisciplinary approaches and encourage submissions from various fields including sociology, history, anthropology, literature, psychology, political science, cultural studies, and media studies.
